Using group projects to engage business students in learning statistics and making it a meaningful experience

Teaching undergraduate business statistics can be a challenge in terms of making the students’ interested in the material and having them engaged and taking responsibility for both their own and peers’ learning.  In this talk, I will illustrate how a senior undergraduate course in business statistics was fully revamped through the introduction of a hands-on group project as one of the main course assignments.  Through institutional and course narratives, I will delineate and discuss the design aspects of this major group project where students analyze real data sets, conduct a series of analyses, write up a report, and present their findings to their peers in the class.
